{"id":34345,"date":"2025-06-04T12:29:37","date_gmt":"2025-06-04T12:29:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onequity.com\/dollar-falls-modestly-ahead-of-employment-data-and-prospective-trade-negotiations\/"},"modified":"2025-06-04T12:29:37","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T12:29:37","slug":"dollar-falls-modestly-ahead-of-employment-data-and-prospective-trade-negotiations","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/onequity.com\/pt\/dollar-falls-modestly-ahead-of-employment-data-and-prospective-trade-negotiations\/","title":{"rendered":"Dollar Falls Modestly Ahead of Employment Data and Prospective Trade Negotiations"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The U.S. dollar edged lower on Wednesday amid fading optimism over trade negotiations and caution ahead of key employment data that could influence the Federal Reserve\u2019s policy outlook.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of 04:55 ET (08:55 GMT), the <a href=\"https:\/\/hub.onequity.com\/education\/19\/12\/2024\/understanding-the-dxy-index-a-key-to-forex-and-global-market-insights\/\">U.S. Dollar Index<\/a> \u2014 which measures the greenback against six major <a href=\"https:\/\/hub.onequity.com\/education\/14\/06\/2024\/unlocking-the-global-currency-market-a-beginners-guide-to-forex\/\">currencies<\/a> \u2014 fell 0.2% to 99.002, hovering near its lowest level since late April.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Cautious Sentiment on Trade and Jobs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Markets are watching for fresh developments in trade talks, as the Trump administration set a Wednesday deadline for new offers from trade partners. However, optimism was tempered after Trump criticized Chinese President Xi Jinping in a social media post, casting doubt over potential progress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI like President XI of China, always have, and always will, but he is VERY TOUGH, AND EXTREMELY HARD TO MAKE A DEAL WITH!!!,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Earlier in Asia, there had been some hope that Trump would speak with Xi this week to revive stalled negotiations. ING analysts noted that while recent high-level talks had briefly supported the dollar, \u201cthere is potential for a temporary uptick in the dollar after the event.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Investors are also eyeing private payrolls data later today, which could offer clues about the U.S. labor market ahead of Friday\u2019s crucial nonfarm payrolls report. Tuesday\u2019s JOLTS data showed a rise in job openings but also an increase in layoffs \u2014 potentially signaling early signs of labor market softening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Euro Rises Despite Weak PMIs<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The euro climbed, with EUR\/USD up 0.3% to 1.1399, near a six-week high, despite weaker-than-expected eurozone PMI data. The HCOB Eurozone Composite PMI dipped to 50.2 in May from 50.4 in April \u2014 its lowest since February \u2014 though it remained slightly above the 50.0 growth threshold.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOur view on EUR\/USD is unchanged: we think the pair can settle back close to 1.13 over the coming weeks,\u201d said ING, adding that rallies may lose momentum approaching 1.150.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Markets now await the European Central Bank\u2019s meeting on Thursday, with a widely expected 25-basis-point rate cut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Sterling Gains as UK Services Rebound<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The British pound also firmed, with GBP\/USD up 0.2% at 1.3540, after data showed a modest rebound in the UK\u2019s services sector. The S&amp;P Global UK Services PMI rose to 50.9 in May from 49.0 in April, beating expectations and pushing the composite PMI back into expansion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Loonie Steady Before BoC Decision<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In other currency moves:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>USD\/CAD<\/strong> slipped 0.1% to 1.3709, ahead of the <strong>Bank of Canada\u2019s<\/strong> policy meeting<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>USD\/JPY<\/strong> dipped 0.1% to 143.90<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>USD\/CNY<\/strong> was flat at 7.1877<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe think this meeting is a coin toss,\u201d said ING. \u201cWe slightly favor a cut based on economic fundamentals but recognize that a surprise move could send an overly dovish signal, especially with markets pricing in just 5 basis points.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The U.S. dollar edged lower on Wednesday amid fading optimism over trade negotiations and caution ahead of key employment data that could influence the Federal Reserve\u2019s policy outlook.
